Advanced pattern recognition with robotics

Your responsibilities
In this project the student will have the opportunity to work within the Digital and Innovation team of Axpo’s nuclear division. The project includes the following tasks:

  • Dive into the realm of futuristic tech by evaluating drones and four-legged robots with cutting-edge sensors for autonomous condition monitoring in nuclear power plants.
  • Unleash the potential of Lidar, integrated cameras, and acoustic sensors to revolutionize the routine inspection of power plant components.
  • Embark on the challenge of developing an anomaly detection algorithm, pushing the boundaries of advanced sensing technology.
  • Explore the intricacies of thermal and acoustic sensors for anomaly identification – a journey into the heart of innovative problem-solving.
  • Immerse yourself in a data wonderland, dissecting Lidar, thermal, acoustic, and optical data to extract pearls of insights.
  • Craft a strategy for sensor fusion, where the magic happens in merging multiple sensor modalities into a data-driven anomaly detection algorithm.
  • Bring the algorithm to life – a neural network-based anomaly detection model poised to make waves.

We offer
You will have the opportunity to work alongside nuclear experts and apply your academic and research background in real industrial applications. In this project you will have the opportunity to work in a hybrid mode (office work in main headquarters in Baden and home-office). In addition, you will do regular visits at the Leibstadt nuclear power plant. Depending on the outcome of the project, the internship could be extended and/or a master thesis topic could be proposed.
