Fuel elements deform during irradiation in the reactor. When loading / unloading fuel elements, this can cause serious damage to the fuel element structure. By analyzing the friction data between fuel elements during the loading / unloading process, we aim to determine, whether a certain fuel element has a relevant deformation. The expected outcome is an automated analysis of the friction data, ideally including a reliable criterion for fuel elements that are at risk.
- Interest for mechanical engineering problems
- Data analysis tools like Python, Matlab, R or similar needed.
You will have the opportunity to work alongside nuclear experts and apply your academic and research background in real industrial applications. In this project you will have the opportunity to work in a hybrid mode from Axpo’s HQs in Baden. Depending on the outcome of the project, the internship could be extended.
