The nuclear fuel assemblies include numerous components made of different materials (alloys for structure and ceramics for fuel itself). For the purposes of process monitoring, trouble shooting and material evolution a database of material properties shall be developed. A few components are already being monitored but a systematic tool is to be developed and fed by data from the previous fuel deliveries for power plants Leibstadt and Beznau. The platform and shape are still not fixed and the methods of materials assessment are not defined yet waiting for the applicant’s creativity. During the internship we plan for a visit at a nuclear fuel fabrication facility.
- Basic knowledge of material engineering and testing
- Skilled in MS Office
- Experiences with other data processing and evaluation software favorable
- Fluent at least in English; German favorable
- Endurance, curiosity, creativity
You will have the opportunity to work alongside nuclear experts and apply your academic and research background in real industrial applications. In this project you will have the opportunity to work in a hybrid mode from Axpo’s HQs in Baden. This internship project will probably require more than 3 months time. Depending on the outcome of the project, a master thesis could be proposed.
